For over 50 years, we have been developing and producing veterinary products – and for over 30 years, scientifically-based supplementary and dietetic feed for dogs and cats. Based in the Allgäu region of Germany, rooted in veterinary medicine – with a clear goal in mind: to sustainably strengthen the well-being and vitality of animals.

Climate Neutral Allgäu 2030 Alliance

All alliance partners have committed to being climate-neutral by 2030 at the latest. The focus is on reducing their own emissions and increasing the use of renewable energies. Within the alliance, we pursue the same guiding principle, support each other in implementation with ideas and "best practices", and are audited and certified.

Unavoidable residual emissions are compensated by supporting high-quality projects for CO2 reduction in the region and abroad.

almapharm has been certified climate-neutral since 2020, making it one of the first companies in this alliance to meet all requirements.

almapharm is CO₂ neutral

almapharm annually creates a carbon footprint to assess emission sources, their levels, and trends. Detailed analyses of emission sectors, specific key figures, and their classification according to Scopes (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) enable a step-by-step reduction of greenhouse gases – for example, in water, paper, and heat consumption, catering, residual waste, wastewater, and employee mobility.

We also avoid emissions through green electricity and district heating from neighboring biogas production. We compensate for the low, unavoidable residual emissions as regionally as possible through the Allgäu Climate Fund – made possible by the Climate Neutral Allgäu 2030 alliance. This sets us apart from many other providers.

Solar power – from our photovoltaic system

The photovoltaic system on the roofs of our production and storage halls supplies the administration, warehouse, and production with the necessary energy. The power of the sun thus contributes a large part to the quality of our products as a natural energy source and helps us to live up to our responsibility towards you, the animals, and nature. Because for us, a good product also means being able to justify its production. Thanks to solar power, we can make this particularly resource-efficient and thus move forward into a sustainable future with natural impetus.

And if the sun ever lets us down, we source 100% green electricity, locally and sustainably generated from the Allgäu region.

Karopack – the environmentally friendly packaging solution

No plastic, less waste, environmentally sound disposal, and a better waste balance.
The environmentally friendly paper bags are the optimal packaging material for our products. The idea is as simple as it is brilliant: shredded used cardboard is used as filling material for high-quality, tear-resistant, and dust-free cushioning pads. No new raw materials have to be wasted, sustainable recycling of cardboard and paper waste is ensured, and the trucks never drive empty, creating an efficient, ecological cycle.
The high-quality, tear-resistant, and dust-free cushioning pad can be reused by the recipient or simply disposed of in the paper bin.

District heating through biomass heating

"The Energy Village" is the second first name of our home community Wildpoldsried. For a long time, it has been aware of the necessity of climate-friendly energy generation and invests in sustainable solutions for this purpose. That's why Wildpoldsried in the Allgäu is the ideal location for almapharm, where our company building is directly connected to the "village heating system". It supplies all public buildings with regenerative heat from biomass. This is generated, among other things, by a biomass boiler, three biogas combined heat and power plants, and a heating oil boiler for absolute peak loads.

Our Website – Energy-Efficient Data Processing

Sustainable action begins with transparency about where energy and resources are used. Digital offerings also require infrastructure and computing power.

Our online shop runs on Shopify – a platform that addresses its own operational emissions through measures such as renewable energies and carbon removal. Through the Shopify Sustainability Fund, Shopify specifically supports projects and technologies for permanent CO₂ reduction and removal. The technical infrastructure is based on modern cloud data centers with a focus on energy efficiency.

In this way, we create a digital shopping environment that we design to be as resource-efficient as possible.

We live inclusion

For us, sustainable action means not only taking ecological responsibility but also overall social responsibility.
Allgäuer Werkstätten Kempten has been our long-standing partner and a part of the "Allgäu Energy Efficiency Network," a federal government initiative that supports companies in reducing their energy consumption. They offer people with disabilities permanent jobs with structured processes and full-fledged assignments from the private sector, individual support, and social integration.
For almapharm, Allgäuer Werkstätten performs various tasks such as packaging and sorting, labeling, or inserting information materials.

Dual system – licensed by EKO-Punkt

Recycling and waste separation are an important step towards sustainability. To ensure the nationwide, free-of-charge disposal of empty packaging material for consumers, a dual system was conceived and implemented in the Federal Republic of Germany. This system obliges companies that use packaging to license it. As a result, in addition to the residual waste bin, collection systems for packaging waste such as cardboard, glass, metal, plastics, and composite materials have since been financed and made available.
At almapharm, we work with EKO-Punkt in the area of licensing, thus not only fulfilling our obligation but also supporting the proper disposal of packaging.

FSC – sustainable wood and paper

They are the green lungs of our Earth and more important than ever in times of global warming: forests and their ability to bind CO2 from the atmosphere. This is precisely why it is essential to select materials made from wood according to the strictest criteria. For our packaging materials and printed products, we are increasingly relying on products that bear the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) seal. This includes promoting biodiversity as well as sustainable forest management – without the use of pesticides or genetic engineering.

Train travel – less CO2, more inspiration

Mobility – today that no longer just means getting from A to B, but also a great deal of responsibility. Because sustainability and resource conservation are pressing issues in this area. Especially for external appointments that we attend alone or in pairs, we often rely on the train, making ourselves less dependent on cars. In doing so, we contribute to CO2 savings and, incidentally, also to our inspiration, as new ideas and plans for the almapharm range always come to us thanks to more relaxed travel.
